*Disclaimer (I am not a fitness professional; these are the tips that just worked for me, and they may not work for you. I am just giving you my honest opinion, please read my disclaimer page)
When I started my weight loss journey in January 2021, I didn’t know where to start. I was just determined to lose the weight of 247 pounds, and I was very overwhelmed looking the way that I did. Over the years, I remember being 170 pounds in high school in 2012-2014 and not being as overweight as I was. Being overweight caused me depression, self-doubt, an inability to love myself, and not having a positive mindset.
Moreover, constantly be out of breath while walking up and down the stairs, had a double chin, had jelly rolls on my sides, and struggled to pull up to wear my favorite jeans, then eventually, the belt loop would break. I was tired of walking into Marshalls or Ross to enter the Woman World sections and to find 1x clothing; nothing in that section was cute, unlike the Juniors section of the stores. (When I tell you I was fed up with my weight, I was fed up!) I knew exactly what goals I wanted to set for my weight loss journey: 1. get closer to God, 2. improve my mental health, 3. tone up my body, and 4. love myself more.
You are going to learn about weight loss at-home tips from sticking to a routine, eating healthier foods, at-home workouts, and more.
After learning these tips for weight loss at home, you will feel more confident and motivated to keep reaching your weight loss goals. These tips are meant for you to stay consistent, and you will see a significant difference on your journey!
This post is all about life-changing weight loss tips at home!
Stick to a routine
Sticking to a routine can sometimes be challenging, especially if you have a busy schedule. But it is rather beneficial for you to do when it’s a life-changing goal of yours. The first thing is to write down the goals and create a schedule that works best for you. (Here is an example that worked for me)
- Wake up at 5 am ( brush teeth, shower, etc)
- Drink water with frozen fruits and lemon juice
- Pray and read God’s word.
- Listen to motivational podcasts.
- Listen to Christian music that makes me happy.

Stretch your body
When you first wake up in the morning, you should stretch your body; stretching helps increase the blood flow to your brain throughout your entire body. It relieves tension in your muscles.
According to Healthline, “on days you exercise:
- aim for 5 to 10 minutes of dynamic stretching prior to your activity
- do another 5 to 10 minutes of static or PNF stretching after your workout
On days when you aren’t exercising, still plan to schedule at least 5 to 10 minutes of time for stretching. This can help improve flexibility and reduce muscle tightness and pain.
When stretching, focus on the major areas of your body that help with mobility, such as your calves, hamstrings, hip flexors, and quadriceps. For upper-body relief, try moves that stretch the shoulders, neck, and lower back.” After stretching out your muscles for a few mins, your body will feel so much better, and there will be less of tension.
Cutting out red meat
I know how hard it is to cut out burgers, steaks, ribs, and maybe even pork. When I tell you by ditching red meats, your body will thank you in the long run. After cutting beef out of my diet completely I lost more weight. I felt that reducing the meat in my diet has really benefited me on my journey. There are many alternatives of meats you can incorporate into your diet, such as turkey, chicken, seafood, or even plant-based. I enjoy eating lean meats because it’s easier to digest than red meats.
Eat your vegetables
Remember when grandma always tell you to get your green beans and carrots? And granny was right! Well, I am telling you the same thing. At first, I wasn’t a veggie person because I did not like green beans, carrots, peas, spinach, etc! After learning and experimenting in the kitchen, I finally figured out how to make it tasty and too enjoy it every day!
Drink 1 gallon of water
I know that sometimes drinking water can be hard (trust me, I know; I used to drink a ton of juices and carbonated drinks (Pop/sodas)) it was a hard transition for me. What I did do that really helped me was to put lemon juice in my water and frozen fruits such as, blueberries, lemon, raspberries, mangos, peaches, etc., to give it a fruity taste. Doing this really helped with completing my daily intake of water. Drinking water helps detox and cleanses your system. Drinking water has many health benefits, and I am so thankful for water when I am dehydrated after working out.
Intermediate fasting
Intermediate fasting is an eating pattern in which you are not eating solid foods for a specific period of time throughout the day. According to Healthline, “During the fasting periods, you eat either very little or nothing at all.
These are the most popular methods:
- The 16/8 method: Also called the Leangains protocol, it involves skipping breakfast and restricting your daily eating period to 8 hours, such as 1–9 p.m. Then you fast for 16 hours in between.
- Eat-Stop-Eat: This involves fasting for 24 hours, once or twice a week, for example by not eating from dinner one day until dinner the next day.
- The 5:2 diet: With this method, you consume only 500–600 calories on two nonconsecutive days of the week, but eat normally the other 5 days”.
This can be for spiritual and health purposes as well.
At home workout
I know most people feel comfortable inside their homes. But at first, I enjoyed switching between at-home workouts and going to planet fitness for this journey. Whichever you choose, the results will become the same whether you choose at home or at the gym. You have to stay consistent to get results because it takes time and patience. If you want to see results you should be working out at least 3-5 days per week. Working on either upper body, lower body, core, etc.
At-home workout routine
Using a yoga mat and watching youtube fitness at-home videos has really helped me, and there are some which are apartment friendly. Watching workout videos are engaging and motivating. I was able to sweat off steam from the day of work and felt really good afterward. Working out with friends or family members can be exciting and motivating as a team! I would recommend pacing yourself as you go because you do not want to overwhelm yourself. Please take one day at a time; always remember you are not in competition with anyone but yourself!
Here are the items you need:
- Waterbottle
- workout clothes and gym shoes
- Yoga matt
- medicine ball
- kettlebell (whichever pounds you feel comfortable lifting)
- jump rope (optional)
- ankle weights
- resistance bands
